Jordan’s Star Trek Theme park gets a Funding of $1.5 billion

Very soon Jordan will have an important theme park that will include an attraction inspired by Star Trek. A sum of $1.5 billion has been already authorized for the development of the project. The project will be taking place in Aqaba, a Jordanian coastal city and will be spread to more than 74 hectare area. This project will be called the Red Sea Astratium, this will consist of 17 entertainment sections and a four star hotel among all the other things.

The park is listed to open for tourists and visitors next year. Various investors from US and Gulf region are investing money into this Star Trek inspired theme park. The entertainment aspects of this park will be created by an animation firm, based in Amman, the name of the firm is Rubicon Group Holding. The Star Trek attraction is being designed by Paramount Recreation. Besides these two firms, architectural firm Callison will also be assisting Rubicon Group Holding in the creation of the whole park. The plan to amaze the audience with 23^rd century’s beautiful experience that will include highly advanced sound and visual effects to provide the people visiting the park. The technology which will be used in the creation of the Red Sea Astrarium Park will be unique and they will be state of the art in fact.

The theme park will also include ‘green technologies’ in order to have a lower carbon footprint. The park will utilize renewable energy to the needs of its electricity. An advanced pavilion will also be constructed where different sections of society will be taught about the advantages and importance of renewable sources of energy and eco-friendly systems like graywater harvesting.

‘Green’ Design for a Kindergarten in Riga by ARHIS

Latvia based architectural organization, ARHIS has suggested a very detailed and green design for the plan of constructing a kindergarten in Riga, a city of Latvia. This proposal consists of classrooms that sketch the wonderful stretch of greenery, or the huge park, providing the children a continuous touch of nature.

The building is parted into specific spaces like learning and play for different age groups. The green park is also linked to the urban park, but the entry to this is controlled to maintain the security of the children. The structure combines many glass exteriors in order to maintain the powerful green connection. There is facility for sports, swimming pool, and assembly hall that are divided by glass exteriors. The inclusion of glass makes it completely energy efficient since daylight is used optimally. Additionally there are energy saving lamps that are utilized inside the rooms. In place of the normal staircases tubular slides are added, this tubular slides provide more fun to the children while climbing up and down.

This creative design by ARHIS not only satisfies the expectations from the point of view of a child but also includes nature in every aspect of the kindergarten.

Shipping Container Infrastructure planned by Architects in California

We all know that shipping containers are normally used for shipments and old shipping containers are used for storing in big godowns but now WeDesign, a New York based practice is working together with XP & Architecture and planning a big building parallel with long beach in California that will connect the city of Long Beach, Broadway Area and Long Beach Blvd. The project is called as ‘(RE)configured-Assemblage’.

The main idea is to design a big space for people to develop relationships and communication at a large scale in the boulevard. These shipping containers will be connected to each other in such a way that this style will produce open courtyards to take pleasures of sunny days and cool breezes from the beach. The four stories of this urban landscape will include supplies of shops, cafes, art galleries and also an educational center to make a condensed place for visitors to take pleasure of their leisure in a complete manner.

Though the building has been created to be completely made for the purpose of fun and entertainment, the developers have also neglected and not forgotten to make it in a responsible manner. Different types of eco friendly systems have been included in the design of the building. The outer part of the structure is made completely from unfolded containers that are appropriate for the climate of South California as this part helps in protecting the interior container from too much of sunlight. The inner part of the containers help in HVAC consumption saving and also helps in natural ventilation all over the building. Additionally, the recycled gray water and green roof containers help in developing and watering plants.

Students of America Working hard to create solar powered houses

The world is experiencing an increasing worry among its population about the well-known and very important global warming issues. What would be consequences if the biggest contributor after industries could be made to take a turn of 360 degrees itself? Don’t you think it would be an absolute magic if rather than talking only about a solar lamp, cooker or a water heater, we could have a talk on entire house structure that would operate solely on solar energy? Designers are almost on the path of fulfillment of this dream. This is clear from the initiative of Department of Energy in US for greener and cleaner energy. The Department has arranged a Solar Decathlon Contest that needs building houses powered by solar energy.

For the final round, a total of twenty college teams have been chosen. Each team has been offered with the funds of $100,000 by the department. Students of Middlebury are one among those 20 finalists. And they have been working hard from last two years to construct a solar house. Students are working for almost ten to twelve hours a day.

The house created by Middlebury students has almost everything that anyone can imagine to have in a quiet living place, actually touched, a finished and posh home. It features a living area, a bathroom, study room, kitchen and two bedrooms. It also has a dining corner and a loft. The students have been provided with a true face to industrial shelves that change the front part of the kitchen to greenhouse. The intention behind this building is let one to get hold of vegetables in less time and in an easy manner.

Rie Hosokai: Balloon Dress Designer of Japan

Rie Hosokai, a Japanese ballon artist makes use of latex balloons to make unique dresses that can be worn only 24 hours before they collapse and change their color in hot water.

The latex balloons are blown up and woven by hand in various directions both horizontally and vertically, making a texture that looks like fabric. The quantity of air that goes into every balloon is very difficult to estimate when accustoming the size and volume of the costume. 35 year old Rie has been working with balloons for almost ten years so she has figured almost everything. She began her career as a florist initially, before changing to balloon art and starting her own studio, Daisy Balloon, here she makes all kinds of artworks that are inflatable.

He fabric is very affordable, they are just ¢0.09 cents a balloon, the dresses made by her sell for thousands of dollars. These dresses only last for 24 hours before they start to deflate, they must be kept far away from pointed objects and they change color at high temperatures, but still these dresses cost between ¥150,000 and ¥300,000. Rie has even sold a complete set of wedding dress made of balloons, bouquet and headpiece for ¥1 million.

She started making balloon wedding dresses two years back, and until now she has sold around 20 creations, she says that these creations take the people back to their childhood by lifting the spirits of people.

The Flipper Bridge Project at the Crossing Between Hong Kong and China

Hong Kong roads are different from the rest of roads in China. Hong Kong, the former British colony has kept the British tradition to drive on the right side of the road. However, when you want to connect such place with the rest of the “normal” world which is driving on the left side of the road, you have to have a crossing point specially designed for that.

Here you can see a number of projects which were submitted by architects to a competition for the construction of the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities.

One of those is The Flipper Bridge and it is used to safely connect the roads where people drive on the left side and the roads where people drive on the right side.

Train Cars Converted into Comfortable Homes by a German Couple

Vanessa Stallbaum and Marco Stepniak decided to combine two old mail cars in the design of their new house since they love train so much.

Vanessa and Marco are the German couple and they met each other on train, and they spent their first vacation on train ride for four days from Berlin to Kazakhstan. Marco told his girlfriend that he is interested in building their house around two train cars, she agreed immediately. This crazy idea came to 34 year old Marco fifteen years ago, when he was in a youth club, near to his house of Herten. It was built up in two old train cars and he says, at that time he was thinking that someone could live in them actually.

Two new train cars which the couple wanted to use for their new house priced around $725,000 but they were fortunate to find two second hand mail cars in an online ad from Switzerland. The two train antiques that were build in 1974 and 75 were in a notably good condition and they cost only $29,000. But transporting them from Switzerland to Germany actually cost more than cars unfortunately like $37,600, but Marco and Vanessa were ready to spend the money to make their dream come true.

The two mail cars were cleaned nicely and repainted in Monchengladbach, they were moved to the site of construction, in Ruhr. They even hired an architect to plan the house according to what they draw, they got some of their friends and Marco’s father to assist them and convert the train cars into a house. Transforming the cars was very difficult and it was beyond their expectation. The whole process of converting them into a living space was very difficult, but they got it done successfully somehow.

House Decorated by 180,000 Wine Corks

The house of Miroslav Svoboda in Mutenice, the Czech Republic, has become a great tourist attraction since he decorated the house with 180,000 wine corks.

Two years back, Mr. Svoboda got this idea of using wine corks to decorate his house and make more appealing. There was circle space on one of the walls that was empty, and he decided to fill it with a drawing, but when he saw his friends did not like this idea, he decided to fill that space with wine corks. Mutenice is a small town located in South Moravian, which is a wine region of the Czech Republic, this is the reason why he was able to get so many wine corks. Unfortunately for him, Miroslav Svoboda is a passionate red wine drinker, and he managed to save his own wine corks, and also got many of them from his neighbors and friends.

The entire process of cleaning the wine corks has been developed by bricklayer and assured his decorative work gets clear in the test of time. At first, he placed the corks in a disinfectant water to remove the smell of wince and killed all the germs that could have resulted in mold. Then he dried those corks in nets made from onion bags and cut them in two equal portions. He fixed every piece of cork into place by hand into different shapes with the help of cement. According to Svoboda his house is very old and there are thick walls everywhere, so did not cover the corks for cushioning, but only for inventive reasons.
