The Newly Completed Harbin Opera House By MAD Architects

Harbin, the Northern Chinese city which is already known by its Ice City, has recently got another amazing infrastructure. Newly completed Harbin Opera House is designed by MAD Architects who are also working on the Fake Hills project.

The Harbin Opera House looks like a huge space ship. It covers the area of 850000 ft2. It is a part of Harbin Cultural Island project which contains from opera house, cultural center and the surrounding landscape along Songhua River.


The Harbin Opera House features a grand theater which can accept more than 1600 spectators and smaller one which can host 400 people.

“We envision Harbin Opera House as a cultural center of the future – a tremendous performance venue, as well as a dramatic public space that embodies the integration of human, art and the city identity, while synergistically blending with the surrounding nature,” said Ma Yansong, founding principal, MAD Architects.
