Grand Master Chime by Patek Philippe – World’s Most Complicated Watch

We all know that a small thing like a watch can cost thousands of dollars and some watches do cost couple of millions of dollars. It is hard to imagine what makes such a watch to sell at that price.

Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe, celebrating its 175th anniversary, decided to record the construction of world’s most complicated and the world’s most expensive watch called Grandmaster Chime – the result of seven years development process.


The Grandmaster Chime is a double-face wrist watch which as a facing that shows the time and the other facing shows advanced perpetual calendar. It consists of 20 complications and 1366 movement components.

It took them seven years to design and develop this watch and two years of active production to actually produce it. More than 100.000 workinghours. It has a plenty of features including acoustic alarm made of small gongs which announces the time and there is an alarm for announcing the date too. It has also moonphase calendar, it can show second time zone with day/night indicator.

And we almost forgot the price, it costs $2,5 million.
