New York’s Santa Claus Convention 2009

An annual Santa Claus Convention was held at the Washington Square Park, New York City on December 12 where attended thousands of people dressed as Santa.
Different group started SantaCon 2009 from different starting points: Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and New Jersey and final gathering was held on Washington Square Park.

“SantaCon is a not-for-profit, non-political, non-religious & non-logical Santa Claus convention, attended for absolutely no reason”, says the description on NYC Santa Claus official web page.
To attend Santa Claus Convention it is not enough just to wear Santa hat. As stated on their webisite, you have to be creative and entertain your red costume, gifts etc.
It was not obligation but it was requested from those who attended this event to bring some non-perishable food items to be donated to the NYC food bank. Last year they gathered and donated about 1.000 lbs of food.
